Bermuda Triangle also known as the Devil’s Triangle is an area in the Atlantic Ocean stretching from Miami, out to Bermuda and down to Puerto Rico as a triangular shape. This area is known by being the site of many vanished planes and ships. Even though there are some scientific research and explanations on this topic, this area remains its mystery. These enigmas led people to create myths, conspiracy theories and even films based on it.
One of the reasons why the myths have grown is that the ocean is very deep down there. That’s why aircrafts and ships are hard to locate and investigate, which is also a reason why there are a narrow range of scientific explanations on Bermuda Triangle. Another reason is that the hurricanes and tropical storms are very common in that area especially between June and November, adding to the mystery.
In this article you will be reading about the aircrafts, ships and even a lighthouse that strengthened the reputation of Bermuda Triangle. Here is a list of the cases in the chronological order:
USS Wild Cat
In 1824, this ship with its 31 crew on board got lost in a storm while travelling between Cuba and Miami.
USS Cyclops
This gigantic cargo ship got lost with more than 300 people on board, in 1918.

This event is maybe one of the most interesting amongst others. This ship was found abandoned in the ocean, in 1921 and no one knows the reason why. Was it piracy, bad weather or was it a phenomenal event? I guess we’ll never know.
Flight 19
The loss of Flight 19 on 5 December 1945 was a key event in the history of the Bermuda Triangle. Five Avenger aircrafts vanished into thin air over the triangle after the leader lost his way over the ocean. So far, there are no signs of these five US Navy planes or their crew which is one of the most important additions to this area’s reputation. Moreover, this event was a huge impact on the film industry.
PBM Mariner
After Flight 19’s disappearance, this flying boat was sent on a rescue mission to find them. Mysteriously, it went missing too, in December 1945.
Douglas Skymaster C54G-1-DO
Unlike many of the Bermuda Triangle tragedies this plane was crashed into the ocean instead of vanishing. As I mentioned before, hurricanes and tropical storms are likely to be seen around between June and November, which is the reason why the plane crashed in July 1947.
Douglas DC-3 NC16002
This plane went missing while travelling to Miami from San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1948.
BSAA Star Tiger
In January 1948, the Star Tiger vanished without a trace while on a 3,220 km flight from the Azores to Bermuda.
BSAA Star Ariel
This plane went missing while travelling to Kingston, Jamaica from Bermuda, in 1949.
SS Marine Sulphur Queen
The business ship that was loaded with tanks of molten sulphur disappeared while travelling from Beaumont, Texas to Norfolk, Virginia, in 1963.
ERCoupe F01
A plane named ERCoupe F01 with its passengers were lost while travelling to the Bahamas, in 1965.
USAF C-119 Flying Boxcar
This plane failed to arrive at its destination, Grand Turk Islands in 1965. So, it was declared missing.
Great Isaac Cay Lighthouse

Apart from aircrafts and planes, the two keepers of this lighthouse that’s located between the Bahamas and Miami disappeared during a hurricane in 1969.
Piper PA-23
In 2005, this private plane was never seen again after it flew into bad weather.
Piper PA-46-310P
During a thunderstorm in 2007, this small plane went down over the Bahamas.
SS El Faro
33 people on board lost their lives when this ship sank because of a hurricane on 1 October 2015.
MU-2B-40
The wreckage of a private aircraft carrying 3 passengers was discovered after it lost contact with air traffic control in May 2017.
To sum up, there are a lot of tragic events that took place in the Bermuda Triangle. This shows that this triangular area must be researched more widely in order to give an end to these mysterious accidents and learn the truth behind all these vanishments, deaths and mishaps.
