Sugar: Our Greatest Nutrition Enemy

demiraytek

All of us consume sugar, even if we don't want to. It is a known enemy resulting in weight gain, short-term energy increase, and happiness. But why does this happen, and why is it so addictive? I hope this blog will be helpful for me as a candidate for quitting sugar and for those who are aiming to give it up.

Why is it highly addictive?

Sugar can be addictive for many reasons, but it's mainly due to the reward system of our brain. When we consume sugar, our brain releases dopamine, the pleasure and reward hormone. This creates a loop in our brain as it becomes more and more addictive. Sugar can be found in a number of products that we consume, and that is why we can't give it up; we are surrounded by it.

Is there any healthy sugar?

There is surely some healthy sugars besides the ones that can be found in packed snacks and drinks; the healthy ones are next to us, in the fruits. These natural sugars are capable of providing high energy in a short time, and that's why they are consumed by athletes and individuals who want to lose weight. Fruits can be a great alternative for those who want to cut down on sugar. However, every sugar must be consumed at a careful measure.

What happens if we quit sugar?

What happens if we actually quit consuming sugar? I have been asking this question and found incredible results. Well, if you cut it instantly, your brain's reward system will collapse and not release dopamine like it used to, resulting in fatigue, laziness, and headaches.

After the fatigue progresses and is over, you start healing. You can observe your energy levels are more stable than ever; this results in a good mood. The body -now doesn't store any sugar- can burn calories faster and increases the speed of your metabolism, resulting in faster weight loss.

As time flies, you will experience your mind being more "clear" and thinking faster, this proves cutting sugar not only contributes to the body but also the brain. Long term result are going to be lower risk at obesity, heart attack etc.

You see, the results are fascinating and full of hope. But it's not always that easy to quit sugar. Especially in our daily lives, junk food can be found everywhere as they are the triggers for consuming sugar. Self-control is key in this one. Also, sugar can be a "comfort provider" for some people, which can be undeniable because of the stressful lives people are living. The main motivation here is focusing on what can happen in the future and how cutting sugar will help us in our daily lives. There are so many people here dealing with this problem but with a healthy diet, sufficient water consumption and egzersizes, the negative results can be minimized.
